The Model Y is currently the only Tesla model on sale, and the Model S and Model 3 are likely to be launched in 2026!
Yes, you can now book your Tesla in India! The American carmaker has just launched the Model Y in India at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in two variants, a standard and a long-range version. Its first showroom has been opened in Mumbai, and Tesla plans to set up its shop in Delhi and Gurgaon shortly.
The Model Y is now available to book on Tesla’s configurator, and it also has multiple customisations allowing you to create your own Model Y the way you want it. So if you are one of the lucky ones who can actually book the luxury EV, or if you simply want to understand the process, then read on as we take you through it…
Tesla Model Y: How To Book Yours…
Booking a Tesla is not a difficult task, but there are many customizations that might make it a slightly longer process.
The first step involves visiting Tesla.com and changing the country to India. In some cases, it may automatically direct you to the Indian website. The next step is to select “Order Now” and set your location. You then get the option to choose from two variants, the standard variant, which has an ex-showroom price of Rs 59.98 lakh and the Long-range version, which retails at Rs 67.89 lakh.
Once you are done with that, you come to the most confusing yet interesting part: choosing exterior and interior colour options. Here’s a look at the exterior colour options, and a look at the premium you would have to pay for some of the options:
Colour Rs 1.85 Lakh
So spending up to almost Rs 2 lakh for a colour might not be illogical, but if you are willing to buy a Tesla, then you might as well get the colour of your choice. Once you are done choosing your hue, you get to spec the interior colour theme. As standard, it comes with an all-black cabin that’s free of cost, but if you want the white and black scheme, then you would have to shell out an extra Rs 95,000.
The next step is to decide if you want Tesla’s self-driving package, which comes at an additional Rs 6 lakh! Lastly, you have to pay the booking amount of Rs 22,000, and it’s important to note that the amount is non-refundable. Tesla also provides you with an Auto loan option for those who are not willing to make the entire payment up front. You can either pay the booking amount through your cards, or you can also pay via India’s favourite payment method, UPI!
So once you are finally done with the payment, patience is the key, as your Tesla will arrive in Q3 of 2025 as a fully imported model. To know more about the Model Y, check out this story.
ZigSays…
Teslas are a completely different breed if you compare them with any of the existing EV models in India. While purchasing one might not be the most logical decision, the filthy rich people of the country won’t mind shelling out the cash for the Tesla. For the common man, it’s just a cool car on the road. For those on a tight budget, it is okay if you look past the Tesla, as there are many better packaged options at lower prices.
