Billionaire Elon Muskâs offer to pay TSA personnel during the partial government shutdown poses âgreat legal challenges,â according to the White House.
The worldâs richest man recently shared a social media post offering to pay TSA employees amid the Department of Homeland Security shutdown, which began in mid-February after lawmakers failed to reach a deal on funding the agency. TSA employees are working without pay which has led to staffing shortages and long security lines at airports nationwide.
âI would like to offer to pay the salaries of TSA personnel during this funding impasse that is negatively affecting the lives of so many Americans at airports throughout the country,â Musk wrote Monday on his X platform.
The White House has now rejected Muskâs offer, CBS News first reported Wednesday.
When asked about the decision, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson told The Independent: âWe greatly appreciate Elonâs generous offer. This would pose great legal challenges due to his involvement with federal government contracts.â
