The electric SU7 sedan has outsold the Tesla Model 3 month-on-month since December.
Chinese smartphone turned EV maker will only consider selling cars outside China from 2027, Lei Jun, CEO, said during a livestream this week.
He said that the company has to focus on its domestic market in the meantime given strong orders for its SU7 and YU7 cars.
The electric SU7 sedan has outsold the Tesla Model 3 month-on-month since December and the newly launched YU7 SUV received robust orders in the first 18 hours after it went on sale last week.
After the tremendous response to the YU7, Xiaomi told customers that they will have to wait more than a year to pick up their cars. This sparked a wave of complaints against the company.
On being asked about the long waiting times, Lei did not elaborate much.
"We'll strive to ramp up capacity," he said.
Xiaomi had showcased the SU7 electric sedan in India back in 2024.
