Email Elon Musk’s SpaceX is gearing up for Mars with its latest rocket launch after two disastrous launches. SpaceX is preparing to launch its Starship mega rocket on Tuesday, in what will be the first major test of Musk’s Mars-bound rocket since two explosions scuppered earlier flights in 2025. “Starship departs for Mars at the end of next year, carrying [Tesla’s humanoid robot] Optimus,” the SpaceX boss wrote on X in March. “If those landings go well, then human landings may start as soon as 2029, although 2031 is more likely.” READ: SpaceX to send first high-speed internet satellite into space in 2019 (November 20, 2017) SpaceX, founded in 2002 by Musk, is a private aerospace company revolutionizing space travel. It aims to reduce costs and enable Mars colonization. Notable achievements include the Falcon 1, the first privately developed liquid-fueled rocket to reach orbit, and Falcon 9, a reusable rocket significantly lowering launch expenses. SpaceX developed Dragon spacecraft for cargo and crew missions to the International Space Station. The Starship project targets interplanetary travel with a fully reusable spacecraft. SpaceX also launched Starlink, a satellite internet constellation providing global broadband. Its innovations continue to disrupt aerospace, advancing commercial spaceflight and deep space exploration. It will reportedly mark the ninth major flight of the world’s biggest rocket, as SpaceX looks to accelerate testing to meet Musk’s goal of sending it to Mars by the end of 2026. “Developmental testing by definition is unpredictable,” SpaceX wrote in a blog post ahead of the latest launch attempt. It added that by putting hardware in a flight environment as frequently as possible, they were able to quickly learn and execute design changes as they sought to bring Starship online as a fully and rapidly reusable vehicle.
