A routine launch of 28 Starlink satellites today [May 13th] will be looking to break an impressive record for SpaceX. The new record is that the launch will be the 28th use of the Falcon 9 booster rocket.
The launch will wrap up a succesful weekend for SpaceX. The company sent another batch of its Starlink internet satellites to orbit from Florida’s Space Coast on May 10th, its second launch in a little over six hours. A Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Starlink spacecraft lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station today at 2:28am EDT.
The liftoff followed closely on the heels of another Starlink mission, which launched from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base on May 9th.
The May 13 flight, and the 28th flight for the first stage booster supporting this mission, previously launched CRS-22, Crew-3, Turksat 5B, Crew-4, CRS-25, Eutelsat HOTBIRD 13G, O3B mPOWER-A, PSN SATRIA, Telkomsat Merah Putih 2, Galileo L13, Koreasat-6A, and 16 traditional Starlink missions.
Following stage separation, the first stage will land on the Just Read the Instructions droneship, which will be stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.
Starlink currently consists of more than 7,300 operational satellites, and more are going up all the time.
