Elon Musk and Tesla are currently facing a class action lawsuit alleging odometer fraud related to their Tesla Model Y vehicles.
The suit claims that the odometers can be off by as much as 117 percent before the 50,000-mile warranty expires. Doing so, it potentially leads to vehicles falling out of warranty sooner than expected, as the company bases its warranties on mileage.
This new lawsuit follows a previous case where Tesla was accused of misleading customers about vehicle driving ranges. And if the current lawsuit gets settled in the other direction, it would only add to Tesla’s ongoing practices.
However, the world’s richest man, Musk, has already faced significant financial consequences for past infractions, including fines related to the inflation of vehicle range metrics.
