SpaceX plans to raise up to $75bn (£56bn) when it goes public this month – putting Elon Musk on course to become the world’s first trillionaire. The space company is gearing up for what is expected to be the largest-ever stock market debut. It expects to sell 555.6 million shares at $135 (£100) a piece in its initial public offering (IPO). The estimated proceeds would easily top the $26bn raised by oil giant Saudi Aramco in 2019. What’s more, the flotation would give SpaceX a market value of $1.77trn (£1.53tn). Only six companies in the S&P 500 are currently worth more, the largest being Nvidia at $5.2tn. Sky News
A police raid of a data center in Farnborough, UK, has seen around £1.2 million ($1.61m) worth of equipment seized. As shared by the City of London Police, the data center was being used to house equipment for illegal streaming services. Two people have also been arrested in connection with the operation, and since released under investigation. The raid was conducted after the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) received a report of suspicious activity at the data center. Sky assisted PIPCU with the raid, helping to dismantle the pirate infrastructure, which included clusters of high-bandwidth servers. DCD
The growing use of smart technology could make cheating in exams harder to detect, the head of England’s exams regulator has warned. Sir Ian Bauckham, the chief regulator of Ofqual, said invigilators are being trained to spot covert equipment, including smart glasses, hidden earpieces and pens with built-in screens. Data from Ofqual shows that the use of mobile phones and smart devices has been the most common form of exam malpractice in every summer exam series since 2018. Last year, it accounted for 44% of all student malpractice cases. BBC
Amazon is expanding fast-track deliveries in the UK, including adding fresh fruit and vegetables to same-day services, after closing its standalone grocery stores. The firm said it would expand Amazon Now, its ultra-fast delivery service that already delivers goods in less than 30 minutes to parts of London, to also serve Manchester and Birmingham this year. It will also extend same-day delivery services to Ipswich and Coventry and enable shoppers in London to add fresh groceries to same-day deliveries, a service that has been trialled in the US. A body that represents mobile operators wants the migration to 6G networks to be as smooth as possible, learning lessons from the fractious 5G introduction that has left countries like the UK with a less than satisfactory service. The Next Generation Mobile Networks Alliance (NGMN) says that 6G requires a different standardization approach in order to prevent complexity and market confusion, alongside a smooth and cost-effective migration path for its members. What exactly defines 6G is still being thrashed out, but it is expected to be ready by the end of the decade. The Register
New rules mean it should be easier and cheaper for EV drivers to plug in at home, thanks to Government changes to England driveway EV charger regulations and additional incentives coming into force. Planning rules have already been relaxed for some home and business EV chargers, cutting the need for a planning application in certain cases. And now renters, flat owners, landlords, households with on-street parking and businesses can claim more help towards the cost of fitting a charge point. The Government has increased the grant from £350 to £500, which it says could cover almost half the cost of a typical installation. Independent
