Elon Musk has unveiled ambitious plans to build a satellite manufacturing factory on the Moon, aiming to produce AI-powered satellites that could operate beyond Earth’s energy and infrastructure constraints.
The factory will use a massive catapult system, called a “mass driver,” to launch satellites into space efficiently, allowing Musk’s xAI company to gain a significant advantage in global AI computing capabilities.

During an internal meeting, Musk emphasized the project’s critical importance for xAI’s long-term growth, urging employees with the directive, “You have to go to the Moon,” highlighting the potential of space-based AI infrastructure.
These AI satellites are expected to support advanced systems and data centers that operate beyond Earth’s limits, including high electricity costs and physical constraints, providing the company unprecedented computational power.
