But much like in real life, Musk overstays his welcome, telling Mr Burns that his plans have resulted in Springfield losing up to $50 million (£37 million) per financial quarter, and leading the series villain to implement DOGE-esque mass layoffs. Those layoffs hit Homer's friends Karl and Lenny, leaving Musk highly unpopular and leading Homer to end their relationship before he boards a SpaceX ship and leaves Springfield. In real life this year, Musk joined Donald Trump's administration as the leader of DOGE, but was later jettisoned by the president after a massive falling out, leading him to step away from political life for a spell. ‌
