Future of the internet is here as Jeff Bezos launched Amazon LEO a fleet of satellites promising blazing-fast 1 Gbps internet from space. With SpaceX’s Starlink dominating the skies, Bezos is staking his claim, sending a clear message to Elon Musk, that the race for space internet supremacy is on, and this time, speed is everything.
With just 150 satellites in orbit, less than 2% of Starlink’s 8,500, Amazon promises download speeds of up to 1 Gbps, nearly five times faster than Starlink’s US average.
The race for space internet supremacy is heating up. While SpaceX plans to expand Starlink to 12,000 satellites, Amazon aims for a 3,236-satellite network, signaling a high-stakes showdown between Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk in orbit.
Currently available to select group of business users including airlines, clean energy firms, and wireless companies Amazon LEO is designed for extreme performance in the toughest environments. Amazon boasts that its ultra-advanced phased-array antennas will redefine what satellite internet can do.
JetBlue is already on board, citing Amazon LEO’s promise of fast, reliable, and flexible in-flight Wi-Fi for its passengers. The company calls this a “game-changer” for businesses and industries that operate anywhere on the planet.
With full-scale launches expected next year, Amazon LEO could become a serious contender in the space internet war, putting the tech giants’ rivalry literally among the stars.
