AI startup Parallel Web Systems, founded by former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, has secured $100 million in Series A funding to build web search infrastructure for AI agents and fund partnerships with online content providers. The round values the company at $740 million and was co-led by Kleiner Perkins and Index Ventures, with participation from Khosla Ventures and other existing investors.
Parallel develops application programming interfaces (APIs) that allow AI systems to search the live web for up-to-date information, which is critical for tasks such as writing software code, analyzing sales data, and assessing insurance risks. Unlike traditional search engines, Parallel returns optimized content, or “tokens,” designed to feed directly into an AI model’s context window, reducing false information and operational costs. : AI startups swap independence for Big Tech’s deep pockets
Agrawal highlighted the importance of web access for AI agents, asking, “You can’t deprive an M&A lawyer from not being able to use the web, so why would you deprive their agents?” He said the funding will support product development, customer acquisition, and efforts to ensure web content remains accessible despite increasing paywalls and login barriers.
The startup also plans to explore an “open market mechanism” to incentivize publishers to keep content available for AI systems, though details of this initiative remain under wraps. Founded two years ago, Parallel first launched its products in August 2025 and previously raised $30 million in January 2024.
