Heartbreaking news shook the basketball world this week. USC commit Alijah Arenas, son of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, entered a medically induced coma following a single-vehicle crash in his Tesla Cybertruck. Few anticipated such a sudden tragedy for the 18-year-old phenom.

Arenas, just 18, is a phenom. Ranked No. 13 as a recruit to the Class of 2025 nationally and a McDonald’s All-American, Arenas fast-tracked his class to 2025 to join USC, originally set to graduate in 2026, before fast-tracking his way into the spotlight. He turned down blue-blood programs like Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, and Louisville just to represent USC.
One of the most gut-wrenching parts of this ordeal: Gilbert had to cancel his popular podcast, Gil’s Arena, to stay by his son’s side. Fans took to social media, overwhelming platforms with prayer emojis and heartfelt messages.
