July 23, 2024 3:15 PM Wikipedia July 23, 2024 10:12 PM I am not a fan of Elon Musk and his hateful speech(both racist and anti-lgbtq+). I think Tesla still makes some of the best EVs in the world. That being said, if I were purchasing a new EV, I am not sure I would go with Tesla. I own shares of TSLA in my IRA that I bought back in 2012, so I am still have a vested interest in the company's long-term success, but I have lost faith in the board and Musk himself. At my core, I am an investor, and I see Musk's conduct as a a threat to the Tesla brand. Automobile buyers consider brands very often when making purchasing decisions. My hope is that Musk eventually leaves Tesla, and the talented engineers there get a chance to make cool products again. Given the board's tolerance of Elon's behavior, I fear that he will continue to tank the brand. I currently have a $50/share price target on the stock, so I am not super jazzed about losing another 80% on my holdings, but depending on the broader economy and his mental state I think that might be a buying opportunity similar to buying Apple when Steve Jobs had a liver transplant in 2009. Elon buying Twitter was the worst thing that could have happened to Tesla shareholders. It's a damn shame, because I actually liked Twitter before it became whatever the fuck it is today. TLDR; I hate Elon Musk. I think Tesla makes some good products, but most importantly I think electric vehicles are great and I am considering a Rivian for my next purchase.
