Tesla has officially unveiled its long-awaited Tesla Diner & Drive-In Theater—a futuristic, all-in-one EV supercharging, dining, and entertainment venue in the heart of Hollywood.
With 80 V4 Supercharger stalls, a rooftop lounge, in-car food ordering, and two massive 45-foot LED movie screens, the new Tesla diner is both a cultural attraction and a tech-forward oasis for electric vehicle drivers.
The Tesla Diner dazzles with neon glow and retro styling as Tesla vehicles line up to watch short films from their windshields while charging below the iconic screen.
At the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Orange Drive, between Highland Avenue and La Brea Avenue, Elon Musk first floated the concept for the diner in 2018, describing it as a “Grease meets the Jetsons with Supercharging” experience.
He envisioned roller-skating servers, classic American comfort food, and a drive-in movie setup at a Tesla Supercharger station in Los Angeles. Construction on the project began in fall 2023 at the site of a former Shakey’s Pizza on Route 66, and the structure—designed by Stantec—has since evolved into a gleaming, saucer-like, stainless-steel edifice that pays tribute to both classic diners and Cybertruck-era minimalism.
The final result is a 9,300-square-foot, two-story facility with an indoor dining area, a rooftop bar, outdoor seating, a gift shop with Tesla merch, and two towering LED movie screens—each visible from multiple rows of parked Teslas.
Curated by celebrity chef Eric Greenspan, the menu features familiar comfort classics with modern twists: wagyu beef chili, Tesla burgers, fried chicken and waffles, hot dogs, and hand-spun shakes. All-day breakfast is also available, with egg sandwiches, avocado toast, and cinnamon rolls featured prominently. Food is served in nostalgic-yet-futuristic packaging—some shaped like Cybertrucks—and the entire experience is geared toward convenience.
Drivers can order food from inside their cars via the Tesla app and have it delivered directly while watching retro cartoons, music videos, or SpaceX launch footage on the outdoor screens. Roller-skating servers and a full-height Optimus robot prototype add sci-fi flair to the otherwise ‘50s diner vibe.
The Tesla Diner features 80 V4 Supercharger stalls with ultra-fast 325 kW capability, allowing for rapid EV charging during dining and entertainment. Only Tesla owners can access the in-car theater audio experience, synced through their vehicle’s speaker system.
Non-Tesla EVs may still charge at the facility but won’t be able to use the integrated drive-in theater setup. Tesla has not yet confirmed the exact hours and days of operation for the diner, Supercharger area, or theater, leaving many visitors speculating on how the experience will evolve into evening hours or late-night dining.
Last week, Tesla CEO Elon Musk dined at the location and praised the team’s work on X (formerly Twitter):
“Team did great work making it one of the coolest spots in LA!” Media outlets, tech enthusiasts, and Tesla superfans who’ve visited during the soft launch are echoing Musk’s enthusiasm. A Reddit user shared a nostalgic comment on the transformation:
Visitors have praised the diner’s immersive design. The ceiling in the restrooms, for example, features a portal-like window showing a view of Earth, a direct nod to Tesla’s cosmic ambitions.
Situated in LA’s bustling Media District, the diner’s presence is impossible to miss. It has already become a roadside attraction and social media hot spot. Passersby regularly stop to snap photos of the building, which lights up dramatically at night with retro neon and the glow of Tesla branding.
The 45-foot LED screens serve as digital marquees, offering Tesla owners something to watch while charging, whether it’s a short film, a cartoon, or a reel of SpaceX highlights.
While this is
Whether you’re in it for a burger, a charge, a shake, or just the vibe, Tesla’s diner on 7001 west Santa Monica Blvd and Orange Drive is priced about the same as other burger joints in the area .
If our retro-futuristic diner turns out well, which I think it will, @Tesla will establish these in major cities around the world, as well as at Supercharger sites on long distance routes.
An island of good food, good vibes & entertainment, all while Supercharging! https://t.co/zmbv6GfqKf
