Email ORWELL — A 79-year-old man fell asleep while driving and crashed into a tree on Fisher Road near Pearl Road on July 9. Douglas Biklen of Orwell was traveling south at approximately 2:24 p.m. when he fell asleep at the wheel of his 2022 Tesla Model 3, according to Vermont State Police. The vehicle crossed over to the left side of the road and left the roadway before striking a tree head-on. Biklen was wearing a seat belt and sustained no injuries in the crash. The Tesla was totaled in the collision. Road conditions were dry gravel and weather was clear at the time of the crash. Biklen was cited for driving to the right, which carries a $220 fine and two points. The Orwell Fire Department and Middlebury Regional EMS assisted troopers at the scene. Share this
