The Tesla Model Y continues to make headlines. If it’s not a rollout of specially-equipped Model Ys serving as robotaxis on Austin, Texas, streets, it’s this most recent recall. Not just the Model Y, either. The Model 3 joins the best-selling EV SUV in a recall for faulty seat fasteners that could break loose, leaving occupants unsecured in a crash.
A recent Tesla recall includes brand-new Model 3 and Model Y EVs for ‘improperly tightened seat fasteners’
Automakers issue voluntary safety recalls all the time. Tesla is no different. And now, the EV marque has one out for its best-selling nameplates: the Model Y and its smaller sibling, the Model 3. The affected models have manufacture dates between April 3, 2025, and May 7, 2025, meaning the recall impacts post-facelift EVs from the 2025 and 2026 model years.
As for the issue itself, seats may have “improperly tightened” fastening hardware. While that doesn’t sound critical by itself, the fasteners are at risk of breaking loose under stress, which could leave occupants unsecured in the event of a crash.
However, it’s not what you might call a large number of the brand’s best-sellers. In short, the new Tesla recall applies to just 30 2026 Tesla Model Ys and 18 2025 Tesla Model 3s. That’s just 48 vehicles.
So, what can you do as a Tesla owner? If you suspect that your vehicle is part of the small population of affected EVs or that it has an outstanding recall of any kind, you can use the NHTSA’s VIN lookup to confirm it. That, or you can input your VIN into Tesla’s online lookup tool. Both tools should be able to locate open recalls for your car using your VIN.
Fortunately, the fix isn’t very complicated. Tesla said the physical repair should require just one hour of labor at one of the brand’s service centers. The Tesla Mobile Service, also known as the “Ranger” program, can also perform the fix. However, the electric automaker says the fix will take longer with the mobile option.
