In Short For Ax-4, Dragon will carry Shukla and three other crewmates—veteran astronaut Peggy Whitson, and astronauts from Poland and Hungary—on a 14-day mission.
The capsule is equipped with life-support systems, touchscreen controls, cargo bay, and can autonomously dock with the ISS. It is also designed for safe re-entry and ocean splashdown recovery.
The Dragon capsule has been integrated atop the Falcon 9 at Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A and has undergone rigorous checks ahead of the planned launch. SpaceX has conducted a static fire test and a full dress rehearsal for the mission.
A NEW MILESTONE
Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla’s journey marks a significant milestone for India’s space ambitions, as he will be the first Indian to visit the ISS and the first to do so as part of a commercial crew. He will be living and working on the ISS for 14 days.
The Ax-4 mission is a joint effort by Nasa, Isro, and Axiom Space, highlighting growing international cooperation in space exploration.
During the mission, Shukla and his team will conduct over 60 scientific experiments, including joint projects with Nasa and several led by Indian researchers, further advancing global space science and technology.
