FALCON NINE ROCKET IS LOOKING TO SHATTER ANOTHER RECORD FOR THE NUMBER OF SUCCESSFUL LAUNCHES ON THE SPACE COAST. ANALYSTS SAY SPACEX’S FALCON NINE HAS REVOLUTIONIZED SPACEFLIGHT WITH ITS REUSABILITY. WESH TWO LUANA MUNOZ TAKES A CLOSER LOOK AT THE FALCON NINE AND WHY IT’S LEADING THE INDUSTRY. SHANE AND LIFTOFF! GO, FALCON! WE’VE BEEN PAYING SOMEWHERE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF ABOUT $10,000 PER POUND TO PUT ANYTHING INTO SPACE. DOCTOR DON PLATT WITH FLORIDA TECH SAYS THAT HAS MADE SPACE EXPLORATION SO EXPENSIVE IT HAS MADE THEM REQUIREMENT THAT EVERYTHING THAT GOES UP HAS TO WORK PERFECTLY, AND THAT DRIVES ADDITIONAL COSTS THERE. OF COURSE, BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO HAVE ADDITIONAL SYSTEMS. YOU HAVE TO DO MUCH MORE TESTING. DOCTOR PLATT SAYS REUSING THE FALCON NINE BOOSTER OVER AND OVER AGAIN IS ALLOWING SPACEX TO LAUNCH MORE THAN ANYONE IN THE WORLD. AND THAT’S WHY THE FALCON NINE ROCKET IS LITERALLY CHANGING THE GAME. JUST AS WEDNESDAY MORNING’S LANDING OFF OF THE KENNEDY SPACE CENTER WAS THE 24TH TIME THAT THAT BOOSTER HAD BEEN USED, AND THAT REUSABILITY IS WHAT’S REVOLUTIONIZING THE INDUSTRY. WE’RE CERTAINLY SEEING THAT, FOR INSTANCE, WITH THE STARLINK, WHERE THERE’S THOUSANDS OF SATELLITES. AND SO IF A FEW OF THEM DON’T WORK, THEN THAT’S OKAY, BECAUSE THERE’S SO MANY MORE THAT CAN TAKE THEIR PLACE. IN ANOTHER SIGN OF SUCCESS, JUST THIS WEEK, THREE FALCON NINE BOOSTERS WERE BROUGHT BACK TO CAPE CANAVERAL. IN 2024 ALONE. FALCON NINE ACCOMPLISHED 117 MISSIONS. SPACEX SAYS THEY’LL TRY TO BREAK THIS YEAR’S RECORD. SO THIS IS MUCH MORE LIKE AN AIRPLANE LEVEL OF OPERATION WHERE ESSENTIALLY YOU YOU TAKE OFF, DO THE FLIGHT AND DO THE LANDING AT THE AIRPORT, FUEL IT UP AND DO IT AGAIN. THE RECYCLING OF SPACEX’S FALCON ROCKETS FLYING OUT OF FLORIDA AND CALIFORNIA HAS ALREADY SAVED THE COMPANY TIME AND MONEY. SPACEX HOPES TO EVENTUALLY RETURN AND REUSE ANOTHER ROCKET IN ITS FLEET, KNOWN AS THE STARSHIP. FULL SCALE RECYCLING WOULD DRIVE DOWN THE COST OF HAULING CARGO AND PEOPLE TO THE MOON AND MARS ON THE SPACE COAST. I’M LUANA MUNOZ WESH TWO NEWS. ANALYSTS SAY SPACEX WILL TRY TO REUSE THEIR BOOSTERS UNT

SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket is revolutionizing space flight with its reusability, setting new records for successful launches and reducing costs."We have been paying somewhere in the neighborhood of $10,000 per pound to put anything into space," said Dr. Don Platt with Florida Tech.Platt said that this high cost has made space exploration extremely expensive."It has made the requirement that everything that goes up has to work perfectly, and that drives additional costs because you have to have additional systems, you have to do much more testing," Platt said.SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket has changed the game by reusing its boosters multiple times.Just this Wednesday morning, the Falcon 9 booster landed at Kennedy Space Center for the 24th time, showcasing its reusability.Platt said reusing the Falcon 9's boosters over and over again allows SpaceX to launch more than anyone in the world."We're certainly seeing that with the Starlink, where there are thousands of satellites, and so if a few of them don't work, that's okay because there are so many more that can take their place," Platt said. This week, three Falcon 9 boosters were brought back to Cape Canaveral, marking another sign of success. In 2024 alone, Falcon 9 accomplished 117 missions. SpaceX aims to break this year's record."So this is much more like an airplane operation level of operation where essentially you take off, do the flight, do the landing at the airport, fuel it up and do it again," Platt said.Recycling SpaceX's Falcon rockets flying out of Florida and California has already saved the company time and money.SpaceX hopes to eventually return and reuse another rocket in its fleet known as the Starship.Full-scale recycling would drive down the cost of hauling cargo and people to the Moon and Mars. Analysts say SpaceX will try to reuse their boosters until they fail, predicting that could amount to up to 40 times.
