2025 Tesla Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to drive a science experiment on wheels, allow us to introduce you to the range-topping 2025 Tesla Model Y (Juniper) Long Range All-Wheel Drive. Clean lines, sleek tech and zero buttons all feature.
It’s almost like they’ve taken a page out of Apple’s book, and then dared you to roast it. But here’s the twist: this electric family car doesn’t just talk a big game, it actually delivers on what it promises. Let’s start with what hits you first when you get behind the wheel.
The torque. Tap the accelerator and you’re instantly pinned. We’re not talking lame acceleration, we’re talking “my coffee is now on the back window” level G-forces. That was the first surprise from this mid-sized SUV/crossover.

With dual motors working to provide the AWD platform, the Model Y AWD makes 378kW and 660Nm. It puts that power down like it’s in a hurry to make your neck sore, and all while taking the children to school.

You go from 0 to forgetting how to drive in 4.8 seconds flat. This writer’s daily car isn’t exactly slow, but the Tesla Model Y still managed to put a grin on our face like it was our first time behind the wheel of something quick.
That immediate, electric shove never gets old. And because it’s an EV, it’s dead silent, which somehow makes it feel even faster. Handling is surprisingly sharp. Despite its SUV height and a bit of body roll, the Model Y AWD is planted.
The low center of gravity (thank you, floor-mounted battery pack) helps it stay composed through corners, and the steering, while light, is precise enough to keep you engaged. You won’t mistake it for a hot hatch, but it’s no slug either.
Inside, Tesla has stuck to its “less is more” philosophy, and by less, we mean there are fewer buttons than a vending machine. Everything is controlled through the 15.4-inch touchscreen, which takes some getting used to but ultimately feels intuitive.

Still, it’s not for everyone, If you’re the kind of person who still says “I miss buttons”, this might be your villain origin story. The cabin is airy and minimalist, with heaps of room for passengers and cargo.
Boot space sits at 2,138-litres with the rear seats folded flat, and 822-litres with them up, and there’s also a handy frunk that is surprisingly deep. Practicality gets a big tick. The ride quality is decent, and the vehicle handles bumps well.
On 20-inch Helix 2.0 Wheels, the Model Y doesn’t glide over rough patches; it acknowledges them. It’s not harsh, just not luxury-soft either. Let’s call it “confidently firm”. Now, onto range. Tesla claims up to 551km (WLTP) from a full charge.
In the real world, this author managed just under 500km on a mix of morning city traffic, freeway runs, and one slightly irresponsible launch at a set of lights (sorry Tesla, your sales rep said I could).

Charging is handled via Tesla’s supercharger network or any CCS-compatible station. We hit 10 to 80 per cent in 15-20 minutes at the former, enough time to grab a snack and scroll Instagram for longer than you’d like to admit.
Pricing for the 2025 Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive as it’s officially known starts at $74,594 drive away (or just over $77,000 with the wheels fitted here), and is offered in five colours, with Quicksilver and Glacia Blue being this author’s picks.
If you’re feeling spicy, Ultra Red looks good too. Interior options are black or white vegan leather. While it’s not perfect; the lack of traditional driver instruments takes getting used to, and build quality still isn’t quite Lexus, it’s a big improvement from the previous models.
None of that really matters once you experience the instant torque and seamless tech integration. This car isn’t just a daily driver. It’s a glimpse into what that journey is becoming.

While it won’t win over every purist, it’s hard not to respect how much performance, tech, and practicality it crams into one sleek, all-electric package. Would we daily it? Absolutely. Just don’t forget your coffee lid.
