Elon Musk-owned SpaceX’s satellite constellation, Starlink, subscription could cost between Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,200 per month in India in exchange for providing internet services, according to Business Standard. The initial setup kit for the same is expected to cost around Rs 33,000. According to the company website, the kit would contain a Starlink satellite dish, a Gen 3 router, along with a kickstand for the dish, and a Starlink Cable. The pricing is reportedly at par with India’s neighbours such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka. While Starlink is already live in the first two, it is in advanced stages of regulatory clearance in the island nation.
People familiar with the matter reportedly opined that the company does not have much to gain by providing internet services via satellite communications (Satcom) at a lower price to a larger customer base, as there is a capacity restriction in place in India.
Starlink prices in other markets:
In the UK, Starlink’s monthly subscription for a residential connection costs GBP 75 (around Rs 8,666). While the setup hardware is provided free of charge with a 12-month subscription, if a customer opts out of it, the user will have to pay GBP 299 (around Rs 34,550). However, this might only be most appropriate for households in remote areas. For the “Roam” connection or a Satcom internet connection for a recreational vehicle (RV), a user will have to pay GBP 96 (around Rs 11,094) for unlimited data.
The costs for business connections in the UK are even higher. The Flat High Performance Kit that the company recommends for low-latency activities, like streaming, online gaming, and video calls, costs GBP 1,199 (Rs 1,38,501). The company has priced the subscription fee for the fixed site business connection between GBP 80-300 per month (Rs 9,241-34,655).
If one compares these with the Indian prices, Starlink’s hardware cost for the household connections is at par with the UK market, but the monthly subscription could be almost half the one paid by a British user.
Entry in India:
In March 2025, Indian telecom giants Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio separately entered into deals with the SpaceX-owned satellite constellation venture to provide Satcom services in India. Both telecom companies had said during the announcement that the Starlink equipment would be available at their retail outlets. On top of this, Airtel also mentioned that the company will sell the services to its business customers.
On the other hand, Jio revealed that the company and SpaceX will explore how Starlink can extend Jio’s offerings and how it can complement SpaceX’s direct offerings to consumers and businesses. The telecom player is also establishing a support customer service, installation, and activation mechanism for the Satcom devices.
