Elon Musk
When Elon Musk announced on Twitter that he was starting a tunnel boring company, most people assumed he was joking. But in the months since, he's made it very clear that for some reason, he isn't. In an interview with Bloomberg, Musk reveals more of his tunnel-making plans.
The idea doesn't exactly come from nowhere. After all, tunnels are a very important aspect of one of Musk's other moonshots, Hyperloop. But only days after that seemingly innocuous tweet, Musk's new company was born, though it currently isn't doing much of anything. It's not even clear exactly what it's called. Musk references the original name in his tweet, The Boring Company, but also calls it American Tubes and Tunnels and seems to be joking about both.
Currently, the company has one employee, Steve Davis, a SpaceX senior engineer. However, it lacks any sort of long-term plan, structure, or equipment. It does have a domain name, though: boringcompany.com. Currently there's nothing there.
