The two-stage rocket built by SpaceX launched at 1:10 p.m. from Space Launch Complex-4. An hour later, SpaceX confirmed the 27 Starlink satellites aboard the rocket had deployed. The mission also marked the 25th for the first-stage booster which successfully landed on a droneship positioned in the Pacific Ocean, clearing the way for additional flights. “Starlink is the first high-bandwidth Internet system that serves all of Earth, from the most remote mountain in Antarctica to the middle of the ocean,” SpaceX’s Elon Musk said on social media. While this weekend’s launch marked the 21st Falcon mission from Vandenberg, the base also has conducted four other liftoffs since Jan. 1. Base officials have said Vandenberg could see as many as 70 launches in 2025, but the final number depends on several factors. The number is expected to grow as SpaceX looks to add a second facility — Space Launch Complex-6 — at Vandenberg. Several meetings on the potential environmental impacts of the expanded program will take place in June in Ventura, Santa Barbara and Lompoc.
