The much awaited takeoff to the space mission faced several delays from its original takeoff schedule due to technical snags and bad weather.
Shubhanshu Shukla, a former Indian Air Force's Group Captain has the responsibility as the pilot of the mission with its commander being Peggy Whitson of the United States. Two other members, Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski of Poland and Tibor Kapu of Hungary serve as the mission specialists.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) set the new date of June 25 for the launch which involves private space firm Axiom Space and Elon Musk's SpaceX. The crew set for the International Space Station will take off from Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Centre in Florida.
Before the launch, SpaceX said that the weather for the launch was 90% favourable and all systems were looking good for the launch. The targeted docking time is approximately 4.30 pm IST on Thursday, June 26.
Proud moment for us: Shukla's mother
"It's a proud moment for us. He has our best wishes. I hope he stays healthy and achieves his mission. There is no limit to how proud we are for what he is achieving," Shubhanshu Shukla's mother told PTI.
Shukla's father Shambhu Dayal Shukla, said, "It feels great. This was all God’s blessings…" as per ANI.
