On Monday, French renewable energy company Neoen SA announced the grid-connection of the first phase of its Collie large-scale battery energy storage project in Greater Western Australia.
The Collie Phase I is sized at 219MW/877MWh. as part of the 1GW/4GWh Collie energy storage project, which was launched by Neoen in 2021. According to an earlier report by SMM, the commissioning of the first phase was scheduled to officially start commercial operation in October this year, and it is expected that it will be successfully commissioned on time.
Neoen had already competitively tendered for a capacity service delivery contract at the project last year with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), providing AEMO with 90% (approximately 197MW) of the Collie Phase 1 project's four-hour capacity. The project utilises Tesla's Megapack 2XL all-in-one energy storage product, which is one of the larger scale uses of the product today.
The second phase of the Collie Battery is 341MW/1,363MWh in size and will consist of 348 Tesla Megapack 2 XLs. It will operate under a four-hour capacity service contract signed with AEMO in April this year.
